Neurological pathology Flashcards
1
Q
Describe the function of the major cell types in the nervous system (i.e. neurons, Schwann cells, oligodendrocytes and microglia)
A
Schwann cells-They are in the PNS and they important for the maintenance, development and function of the neuron.
Oligodendrocytes-found in the CNS and it produces a mylien sheath for the protection the nerve.
Microglia - there are in the CNS. They clear of infection in the brain
Astrocytes - IN the CNS ,hep control the blood brain barrier, support and nourish the neurons.
2
Q
Appreciate the similarities and differences between communication between the nervous and endocrine systems
A
Nervous 1) Fast 2) Electrical and chemical messages 3) Electrical impulses to the neurons 4) Can voluntary and involuntary Hormones : 1) Slow 2) Messages transported through blood 3) Chemical messages 4) Involuntary
