- physiological
explain what happens with the hierarchy of needs
each must be completed before we can focus on next level
and once all 4 completed you reach self actualisation
only 1% reach this
what does rogers theory refer to
self concept and how we perceive ourselves as people
what are the 3 elements before congruence
self worth
self image
ideal self
what does self worth mean
what we think and feel about ourselves, develops in early childhood
what is self image
how we see ourselves
what is ideal self
the person you would like to be. our goals and ambitions in life and its forever changing
what is congruence
when the perceived self and ideal self are similar
what is incongruence
when there is a big gap between the perceived and ideal self
what is unconditional postitive regard
humans have a basic need to feel nurtured and valued by significant people in their lives
what happens when positive regard is and isnt given
positive is given with consequences then people will develop a healthy sense of self worth, if it isnt given then they will feel low self worth
what are the conditions of worth
expectations or standards that others put upon us we feel we are only worthy or valuable if we meet these conditions
