What are the 6 parts of the human brain?
cerebrum
drip looking thing - pituitary gland
long thin rectangle in stem - medulla
circle - cerebellum
blob above pituitary gland - hippocampus
bob above hippocampus - hypothalamus
What is the cerebrum?
conscious control
involved in vision and hearing, and learning skills
e.g. clapping hands
What is the pituitary gland?
releases hormones
stimulate other glands
e. g. ADH - osmoregulation
e. g. FSH, LH - involved in menstral cycle
What is the medulla?
autonomic nervous system - autonomic control
e.g. controls breathing and heart rate
What is the cerebellum?
muscle contraction
posture and balance
e.g. automatically adjusting balance whilst riding a bike
What is the hippocampus?
memory
emotion
What is the hypothalamus?
thermoregulation
controls the pituitary gland
links the nervous and endocrine system
