What is the flight or fight response?
response to a threatening stimulus coordinated by the nervous system and endocrine system
What is the fight or flight response coordinated by?
the autonomic nervous system
and sympathetic nervous system - noradrenaline is released at neuromuscular junctions
adrenaline is secreted into blood by adrenal glands - adrenaline binds to specific receptors on target tissue
What does the fight or flight response lead to?
increased heart rate and force of contraction
increased blood pressure
increased breathing rate
increased blood flow to skeletal muscle
decreased blood flow to intenstines and skin - paler skin
liver converts glycogen to glucose
bronchiole smooth muscle dialiate
pupils dilate - allows more light to enter eye
skin har erector muscles contract - increases size of appearence
ALL OF THIS INCREASES RESPIRATION FOR MORE ATP FOR SKELETAL MUSCLE
