The Human Body Flashcards
What is the function of the skeletal system?
Strengthen and support the body
Protect internal organs
Muscular system?
Allows movements through muscular contractions.
Maintain posture, stabilize joints and produce energy.
Nervous system?
Pass information and nerve impulses from one part of the body to another.
Respiratory system?
Provide room and passages for gaseous exchange.
Circulatory system?
cardiovascular
Transport nutriants and oxygen to tissues and remove metabolic wastes.
Lymphatic system?
immune system
Drain excess fluid from between the cells
The lymph node along the vessels contain cells that kill and destroy bacteria. Helps immune response
Urinary system?
Discharge metabolic wastes outside the body through urination.
Digestive system?
Break down food into smaller particles for better absorption.
Endocrine system?
Secretes hormones to regulate body’s metabolism, growth, development and reproduction.
Reproductive system?
Reproduction of offspring.
How is the body like a well oiled machine?
The nervous system controls almost all the body’s activities.
The endocrine system secretes hormones to regulate these:
Functioning together, the organ systems supply body cells with all the substances they need and eliminate their wastes.
They also keep temp., pH and other condition just right to support life processes.
