Forces And Energy Flashcards
Name renewable sources
Biomass Wind Solar Hydro Geothermal
Name non - renewable sources of energy
Fossil fuels:
Coal
Oil
Gas
Nuclear
What is biomass?
Organic material stored sunlight as chemical energy.
What is wind energy?
Convection energy driven by heat from sun
Can be converted to energy by wind turbine
What is hydro energy?
First: Fox River, Appleton, Wisconsin, September, 30, 1882
Dam to retain water.
Sluice gates, open, close regulate amount of water through pipes.
Water transferred to kinetic energy.
Force of water turn shafts in generator.
What is geothermal energy?
Heat of earth turns turbine and gets converted to energy to use
What is solar energy?
Energy from the sun and get converted to electricity.
Solar cell: light energy directly into electricity
Solar panel: heat up water directly.
What is a balanced force?
Two forces opposite direction equal size.
What is a unbalanced force?
Two forces opposite directions not equal. Unbalanced forces change shape and movement.
What is a force?
Something which can cause a change in shape or movement.
How are fossil fuels formed?
Millions of years ago dead organisms settled on the bottom of porous rocks. Sand sediments impermeable rock settled on organic matter trapping carbon energy in porous rocks formed pockets of oil coal and gas.
Earth movements, rock shifts create spaces that forced to collect these energy types into well defined areas
Kinetic energy
Moving things
Sound energy
Moving energy through objects as longitude waves.
Thermal energy
Comes from heat
Chemical energy
Bonds of chemical compounds like atoms and molecules.
Released in chemical reactions: exothermic
For example biomass, petroleum, natural gas, call, stored chemical energy
