what is propaganda?
information, usually presented by the government, presented in a way to inspire/spread beliefs or opinions
what was propaganda used for?
to get men to enlist in the army, buy victory bonds, use less fuel, eat less meat, and support the government
what are some pros and cons of propaganda?
pros - encouraged people to enlist in army, improved winning chances, more nationalism, less meat intake
cons - caused “enemy aliens”, not always accurate info/distorted truth, prejudice and stereotyping, manipulating public opinions, censorship, over-confident public
what is a “total war”
a war in which ALL the nations resources are devoted to the war effort
who does the Homefront refer to?
all civilians who worked in various ways to help Canada cope as 10000s of soldiers fought overseas
what did women do during the war?
worked as nurses, ambulance drivers, factory workers, farmers, weapon designers, knitting/sewing supplies, campaigning to get men to enlist
