The Hip (nerves) Flashcards
What are the major nerves leaving the lumbosacral plexus and entering the lower limb
Femoral, obturator, sciatic and superior/inferior gluteal nerves
Which spinal nerve fibres does the femoral nerve contain?
L2-L4
Where does the femoral nerve innervate?
All muscles of anterior thigh, skin over anterior thigh, anteromedial side of knee and medial side of leg and foot
What are the spinal segments in the obturator nerve?
L2-L4
Where does the obturator nerve innervate?
All muscles in medial thigh except pectineus. Also innervates the obturator externus and the skin over medial thigh
Which spinal segments are in the sciatic nerve?
L4 to S3
Where does the sciatic nerve innervate?
All muscles in posterior thigh, all muscles in the leg and foot, skin over lateral side of leg and foot, and sole and dorsal surface of foot
Which muscles do the superior and inferior gluteal nerves innervate?
Superior: gluteus minimus and medius
Inferior: gluteus maximus
What are the two major branches of the sciatic nerve?
Common peroneal/fibular nerve and tibial nerve
