The Hemodialysis Delivery System Flashcards
Conductivity and pH alarm causes?
Incorrect dialysate bath hooked up than what is programmed in machine.
Empty jug.
Improperly calibrated phoenix meter will give false results.
Interventions for Conductivity and pH alarm?
Change to correct bath on machine, get new jug, recalibrate phoenix meter.
At what temperature will blood hemolyze?
42 degrees celsius
Temp alarm causes and interventions?
Dialysate temp too high or too low.
Check temp. manually to verify accuracy of alarm and adjust it on machine.
Blood leak detector alarm causes and interventions?
Break in compartment. Air Bubbles (false alarm)
Verify if its a real alarm. Test dialysate w. strip to detect any blood. If alarm is real clamp all lines and don’t return blood.
TMP alarm causes and interventions?
Change in venous pressure (clotting in drip chamber, needle loose)
Troubleshoot machine, readjust needle etc.
Intervention for power outage?
Manually return blood and be vigilant for air bubbles.
Arterial pressure high alarm causes?
KINKS, CLOTS, NEEDLE SUCKING ON VESSEL WALL, INFLITRATION
Arterial pressure high alarm intervention?
For clots it depends on severity but either saline flush or maybe stop machine if severely clotted.
Arterial pressure low alarm causes?
Needle is out.
How does patients BP affect the arterial pressure?
If patients BP is LOW the AP can INCREASE. Is BP is HIGH the AP can DECREASE.
Venous pressure High alarm cause?
Clots.
Air/Foam Detector alarm causes and intervention?
Drip chamber under 3/4 full, saline bag is empty, improper priming.
Look at PT first and see if they’re okay. Assess machine, check arm and needle. Fill drip chamber, change saline bag etc.
Heparin pump alarm causes and intervention?
Incorrect setup
Correct setup
Blood Pump alarm causes and interventions?
Incorrect setup, rollers not calibrated correctly.
Correct the setup, calibrate rollers, get help if necessary.
