Adequacy Flashcards
What is Kt/V?
Stands for Clearance, time, and volume. It measures the adequacy of dialysis treatments.
What factors decrease K (clearance)?
Surface area of dialyzer and membrane characteristics.
Adequate anti-coagulation. BFR. BVP. DFR. UF Goal.
Opposite of above increases K!!
What factors influence volume in terms of adequacy?
Height, Weight, sex, age, amputations, body composition.
Needle gauges and sugested BFR for 17g, 16, g15, and 14g?
17g- 200-250 ml/min
16g- 250-350 ml/min
15g- 350-450 ml/min
14g- >450 ml/min
Post-BUN lab draw steps?
- Turn off of decrease UF to 50 ml/hr
- Decrease DFR to 300 or place machine on bypass
- Decrease BFR to 100
- Wait 15 seconds for AVF/AVG & CVC
- Obtain blood from arterial line
If you wait longer than 15 seconds to draw blood the Kt/V will?
Be falsely low
If you wait less than 15 seconds to draw blood the Kt/V will?
Be falsely high
