Describe the function of the right atrium next

A
  • It pumps the blood in to the right ventricle through the tricuspid valve

Describe what happens next after the blood has been pumped into the right ventricle

A
  • The right ventricle then pumps the blood through the pulmonary artery to the lungs where the oxygen is picked up and the carbon dioxide is deposited

Describe the colour change that takes place and why

  • When the carbon dioxide is deposited, the blood changes colour to bright red because of the oxygen it has collected

A
  • The blood returns to the left atrium

- This happens through the pulmonary vein
