• It pumps the blood in to the right ventricle through the tricuspid valve

• The right ventricle then pumps the blood through the pulmonary artery to the lungs where the oxygen is picked up and the carbon dioxide is deposited

• When the carbon dioxide is deposited, the blood changes colour to bright red because of the oxygen it has collected

• The blood returns to the left atrium

- This happens through the pulmonary vein

• The left atrium pumps blood into the left ventricle and the blood then leaves here through the aorta, to be distributed to the rest of the body
