Government oriented. Better choice for income.
Locking in a certain amount of money into a government or buisness sponsored program that earns you interest at a certain percent twice a year.
List three reasons economists say the depression began.
1) The war debts and the reparations owed by the defeated nations had severly shaken the world’s financial system.
2) The Canadian economy depended on exports when the depression hit, other nations stopped buying our goods. Caused the price of goods to fall.
3) Canada produced more pulp and paper, more metals, and more automobiles than could possibly be purchased (1928-1929)
- ->unemployment when they found they had goods that they couldn’t sell.
What was the governments reaction to immigrants in the depression years? Why was this unfair?
The government deported immigrants back to their home country if they didn’t find work. This was unfair because they were invited, gave up jobs in their old land, torn themselves loose to come expecting to find work, and simply being sent back.
What was the unemployment rate in 1933? How many years did it take to get back to the 1927 unemployement rate?

1) Prove that you are not able to support yourself and that no relatives can help
2) Be a man supporting a family
3) Turn in your liquour permit
4) Turn in your automobile license plate and drivers licence
5) Remove your telephone from your house
They were never paid in cash, but good, to prevent families from spending their money on luxury food stuffs.
Was there unemployment insurance in the 1930s? Why?
No, there was not unemployment insurance in the 1930s.
The concept did not exist.
How did the Depression years socially affect 16-18 year old people? What were the causes?
They left school and were unable to find a job. Have nothing to do with themselves; have no money, and are denied the opportunity of taking part in ordinary recreation activities. They also develped bad habits and resented their parents who were unable to provide them with clothing and money. The consequences were, for example, couldn’t afford university, high unemployment rate, very few jobs for unqualified workers.
Why were there 4000 less marriages in 1932?
No one could support themselves let alone a family. There was exonomic stress and no birth control.

You had to be making more than $2000 a year.
If you made a moderate to good wage in the 1930s why was life quite good?
Life was good because you didn’t have to pay income tax, but you still made enough to get what you needed because cars were cheaper, houses were cheaper, lumber was cheaper, and clothing was cheaper.
