The fuel system Flashcards
Priming pump
Sends fuel to the engine prior to start up
Why the primer must be locked during flight?
To avoid excessive fuel sent to the engine
A loss of power bring two possible causes:
- Lack of fuel
- Carburettor icing
Fuel gauges are accurate / inaccurate
Inaccurate
Fuel pressure gauge shows pressure at
fuel lines
Bourdon tube gauge
Used to determine pressure. Looks like a C
Fuel flow gauge
Shows the engine’ fuel use in real time
The fuel flow gauge is measuring fuel flow by
Pressure
When a fuel injector is blocked, the fuel flow meter will show
Higher fuel flow because the pressure is higher
AVGAS meaning
Aviation gasoline
Normal AVGAS
100LL
100LL
Low lead, colored blue
The higher the number of the gas,
The greater the compression that the fuel/air mix can take without detonating.
If you use lower grade fuel than recommended,
detonation
If you use hugher grade fuel that recommended,
Spark plugs can be fouled by lead,
exhaust valvels and sealing faces can be eroded by the higher performance fuel that is exhausting
