What is the fight or flight response?

A

the response that allows people to have a quick response to a life threatening situation

How does the fight or flight response occurs?

A
  • amygdala is mobalised (this associates sensory signals with emotions like fear and anger)
  • amygdala sends distressed signals to the hypothalamus which activates the sympathetic nervous system
  • sympatheic nervous system tells the adrenal gland to secrete adrenaline and noradrenaline causing a physical reaction

  • muscle tension
  • increased breathing rate
  • sweat production
