Hemispheric Lateralisation (AO3) Flashcards
1
Q
What are the strengths of hemispheric laterisation?
A
- increases neutral processing capability (proven by Roger et al’s chicken study)
- split brain research supports it as it shows that the left side is dominant in language and the right is dominant in visuo-spatial tasks (left analyser, right synthesiser)
2
Q
What are the weaknesses for hemispheric laterisation?
A
- changes with age as after 25 lateralisation decreases, likely to recuit both sides of the brain to compensate for age related cognative decline
- laterisation in mathmatically gifted people to have better right hemisphere but suffer from more allergies
there is also a countet point to roger et al’s point because he uses animals to explain a human brain which is more complex
