The eye Flashcards
What doest the Cornea do?
Transparent outer layer, refracts light.
What doest the iris do?
Coloured part made of muscle – Controls amount of
light going into the eye.
What doest the lens do?
Focuses light on the
retina.
What doest the retina do?
Contains receptor cells
which are light sensitive
What doest the pupil do?
Made bigger or smaller by the iris.
What doest the optitic nerve do?
Carries impulses to the brain
What are the two muscles in you eye?
the radial and circular.
What does the radial muscle in the eye do?
when the radial muscles contract the pupil is dilated
What does the circular muscle in the eye do?
when the circular muscle contacts the pupil is not dilated.
what is the Sclera?
The SCLERA is the white muscular tissue that keeps the eyeball round, it is tough and supports the wall of the eye.
what is the Choroid?
The CHOROID is the black inside layer of the eye and absorbs light that might be reflected
what does the suspensory ligaments do?
The SUSPENSORY LIGAMENTS - hold the lens in place
what does the Ciliary muscles do?
The CILIARY MUSCLES - contract and relax to alter the thickness
What is the issue if someone is short sighted?
that the eyeball is either too long or the lease is too powerful. The colliery muscles cannot make the sense thin enough to focus on distant objects.
What is the issue if someone is long sighted?
The lease cannot thicken enough to focus the image on the retina
