The Eye Flashcards
The protective outer layer of the eye
Cornea
Constricts or dilates the control of light flow. The black center part of the eye.
Pupil
Can react to emotions and thoughts. The outer colored layer of the eye.
Iris
Transparent structure behind the pupil that changes shape to focus images.
Lens
The process by which the eye’s lens changes shape to help focus near or far objects on the retina
Accommodation
A condition in which nearby objects are seen more clearly than distant objects
Nearsighted
A condition in which faraway objects are seen more clearly than near objects.
Farsighted
Light-sensitive inner surface of the eye, containing receptor rods & cones in addition to layers of other neurons that process visual information.
Retina
Allows us to see colors
cones
Cones are clustered around what part of the retina
Fovea
Allow for night & peripheral vision
Rods
Receive messages from the photoreceptors
Bipolar cells
Messages from the photoreceptors are transmitted to
Ganglion cells
Carries neural impulses from the eye to the brain
optic nerve
There are no receptor cells located where the optic nerve leaves the eye
Blind spot
