Newer Brain Structures Flashcards
The body’s ultimate control and information-processing center
Cerebral Cortex
home to areas that manage thinking, emotions, personality, judgment, self-control, muscle control and movements, memory storage and more.
Frontal Lobes
a processing center for sensations you can feel with your sense of touch. These include temperature (hot and cold), pressure, vibration and pain.
Parietal Lobes
Any auditory information is processed in the auditory cortex of the
Temporal Lobes
Any visual information is processed in the visual
cortex of the
Occipital Lobes
At the rear of the Frontal Lobes; controls
voluntary movement.
Motor Cortex
(Parietal Lobe): receives
info. from skin surface & sense
organs (touch & movement)
Somatosensory Cortex
“uncommitted” areas that deal with
higher mental functions
Association Areas
the brain’s ability to modify
itself after damage
Plasticity
