Neuron Parts Flashcards
Neuron
The body’s information system is built from billions of these.
Sensory Neurons
Run from the various types of stimulus receptors (touch, smell, etc.)
Interneurons
Connects the two other neurons together. found in the Brain and spinal cord.
Motor Neurons
Muscles and Glands. Transmits the impulses
Dendrites
Receive messages and conduct impulses to the cell body
Cell Body
Life support center of the Neuron
Axon
Nerve fibers that are sent to branches out of the cell.
Terminal Branches
Branches that are at the end of the axon. Transmits messages to other neurons.
Myelin Sheath
Fatty cells that encase the fibers of neurons.
enables faster transmission speeds of neural impulses.
Nodes of Ranvier
Accelerate the transfer of info (the thin gaps)
Glial Cells
Holds Neurons together
