The Equilibrium Constant Flashcards
1
Q
What is the equilibrium constant?
A
Kc
2
Q
What is the equilibrium constant equation?
A
Kc = [D]^d [E]^e / [A]^a [B]^b
3
Q
How does temperature affect Kc?
A
Kc is only valid for one particular temperature. If you change the temperature of a system, you will also change the equilibrium concentrations of the products and reactants, so Kc will change. If a temperature change means there’s more product at equilibrium, Kc will rise. If there’s less product at equilibrium, Kc will decrease
4
Q
How does changing concentration affect Kc?
A
Changing the concentration of a reactant or product will not affect the value of Kc
5
Q
How does adding a catalyst affect Kc?
A
Catalysts don’t affect the value of Kc
