What does the Equality Act do?
Legally protects people from discrimination in the workplace and in wider society
What does the Act make unlawful?
Engage in prohibited conduct relating to protected characteristics

What is the socio-economic duty?
Adopt transparent and effective measures to address inequalities rising from differences in occupation, education, place of residence or social class
What is the equality duty?
- Eliminate discrimination
- Advance equality of opportunity
- Foster good relation between different people when carrying out activities
What does equality mean?
Means giving everyone equality of opportunity in line with their needs
What does diversity mean?
Can be described as the differences that make people unique
What does inclusion mean?
Means involving people within a group or within a society
What does discrimination mean?
Excluding people because of their differences i.e. making assumptions
What are the 5 basic steps stated by the accessible information standard?
Ask - identify if individual has any disabilities
Record - record needs in a clear unambiguous way
Alert - ensure recorded needs are highly visible
Share - part of existing data sharing process
Act - ensure individuals receive information which they can access and understand
