What is The Endocrine System?
A network of glands across the body that secrete hormones
What does the hypothalamus do?
Responsible for stimulating or controlling the release of hormones from the pituitary gland
What is the Pituitary gland sometimes known as?
The Master Gland
What does the pituitary gland do?
Monitors and regulates many bodily functions through the hormones that it produces
What are the two lobes in the pituitary gland?
- Anterior lobe
- Posterior lobe
What does the anterior lobe release?
Adenocortical strophic Hormone (ACTH)
What does the posterior lobe release?
Oxytocin
What does the pineal gland do?
Responsible for important biological rhythms
What does the pineal gland release?
Melatonin
What does the thyroid gland do?
Responsible for regulating metabolism
What does the thyroid gland release?
Thyroxine
What does the adrenal medulla release?
Adrenaline and non adrenaline which plays a roll in fight or flight
What does the adrenal cortex release?
Cortisol which stimulates the release of glucose while suppressing the immune system
What do the testes do?
Responsible for the development of male sex characteristics during pubity while also muscle growth
What do the testes release?
Testosterone
