What is the Thyroid?
It is found in your throat that produces thyroxine.
What does thyroxine do?
It is used to regulate the rate of metabolism, heart rate and body temperature.
What are the Adrenal Glands?
The Adrenal Glands are found above the kidneys and they produce adrenaline.
What does adrenaline do?
Adrenaline is used to prepare the body for a ‘flight or fight’ response.
What is the pancreas?
The pancreas is the place where insulin is produced
What does insulin do?
Insulin is used to regulate blood glucose levels
What is the pituitary gland?
The pitutary gland is found in the brain and produces many hormones that regulate body conditions, and release hormones that bring change towards the hormones and their responses.
What are produced in ovaries?
The ovaries produce oestrogen and are only found in females which is used to the menstrual cycle.
What are the testes?
The testes produces testosterone which controls puberty and sperm production in males.
What are the differences between Nerves and Hormones?
Nerves: - Very fast action - Act for a very short time - Act on a very precise area Hormones: - Slower action - Act for a long time - Act in a more general way (area)
What are hormones?
Hormones are chemical molecules which are released directly into the blood
What is FSH?
It is the hormone produced in the pituitary gland causing the female egg to mature.
What does FSH do to the ovaries?
FHS stimulates the ovaries to produce oestrogen.
What is oestrogen?
Oestrogen is the hormone that is produced in the ovaries causing the lining of the uterus to grow.
