Nervous System Flashcards
What are receptors?
Receptors are cells that detect stimuli (change in environement)
What are effectors?
Effectors respond to the receptors causing a response from the body.
Examples of effectors
Muscles and glands. Muscles contract and glands secrete hormones.
What is the Central Nervous System?
Consists of the brain and spinal cord which is all connected by sensory neurons and motor neurones.
It receives information from the receptoes and then coordinates a response which is carried out by effectors.
What are sensory neurones?
They are neurones that caryy information as electrical impulses from the receptors to the CNS.
What are motor neurones?
They are neutrones that caryy information as electrical impulses from the CNS to effectors
What are effectors?
Effectors are all your muscles and glands which responds to nervous impulses.
What is the order of the nervous system?
Stimulus > Receptor > Sensory neurone > CNS > Motor neurone > Effector > Response
