Q

How did the Roman army evolve during the Middle Republic (up to 133 BCE)?

A

number of legions increased in size

60 centuries + Auxilia “the help” which was soilders or military equipment from allied states

solution to the one year term of consuls is Prorogation:
consuls comman extended= proconsul
praetors command extended= propraetor
all this allowed for stability during wars

created types of soilders= first line, 2nd, 3rd

Maniples= smaller units, allowing for greater flexibility during war. these units would create a Quincunx formation (checkerboard arrangement)
