Use the career of Gaius Flaminius to exemplify the change

  • Flaminius was a Demagogue= leader of the people
    -Plebeians ( commoners) could rise to power
  • Flaminius created Populist politics- politics for the common people (basic desires)
  • Optimates which were senitorial elite wanted to maintain traditional politics but Populares like Flaminius challenged this
  • 232 BCE= passing of a law to distribute ager Gallicus (Gallic land), Overthrowing the senate
