The cratchits give us an insight into what life was like for poor in Victorian england
Despite their poverty and unhealthy they embody Christmas spirit with their optimistic outlook and strong sense of family
The cratchits are small scale version of the impoverished population

Scrooge’s clerk. Used bob and his family to outline the social problems caused in the Victorian society.
Bob cratchit has come to symbolise poor working conditions especially long working hours. They contrast Scrooge as they are poor but rich in love and family
He is mistreated and highlights social issues

Cell crates a metaphoric image of a prison. An idea that bob is trapped by the mistreatment by Scrooge.
Class division is so huge the rich have the ability to mistreat the poor
Cratchit family represent a larger scale of the poor working conditions in England

Shows bobs loyalty and gratitude to Scrooge who he defends showing the reader his is also forgiving
Represents the ideal Christmas character
