Ghost of Xmas present
His purpose is to show us what Xmas was like for different people in Victorian England.
Verbalises dickens message about education and how important it is. Ignorance is more danergous than poverty
‘A jolly giant’ - ghost of Xmas present
It sprinkles incense and water as a blessing
The ghost is generous and carries a torch which locks like ‘plenty’s horn’ this is a symbol of abundance in Greek and Roman mythology
The scabbard has no sword in it suggesting that Xmas is a time for peace
Ghost of Xmas present on his throne
He sits on a throne surrounded by a list of food- implying that there is enough food to go and thus contradicts the malfusion view which dickens hated
However this ghost does hide the realities of life in Victorian england and disguises them as children- ignorance and want
Ghost of Xmas present about ignorance/ want
The ghost cares for the poor
He warns Scrooge about ignoring the less fortunate and how it will lead to ‘doom’
