The first peace of Paris

  • when the Allied armies entered Paris in April 1814 the Senate invited • Louie XVIII to take the phone on the condition that he excepted the charter 74 which included a constitution with two chambers taxation equality before the law freedom of the individual and career open to talent abolition of conscription pardon for former revolutionaries.
  • Napoleon set off the Elba
  • The charter made the Kings return more palatable
  • The allies (Austria, Great Britain, Prussia, Russia, Sweden, and Portugal) presented Louis VIII, with the first treaty of Paris to sign on the 30th of May 1814, they agreed to withdraw from French soil and allow France to keep looted artworks, while facing no war indemnity, The had to accept the borders of 1792.  to confirm the treaty and work out the details delegations of both allies they met a Congress in Vienna in November 1814

On 11th of March 1815, as the Congress was in session, news came that Napoleon escaped from Elba and landed in France. Two days later on the 13th of March the major powers signed a declaration declaring Napoleon and outlaw and offered Louis VIII the assistance to resist any attempt by Napoleon to regain power.
- Napoleon landed on the 1st of March in Keynes with 1000 men and had already attracted a huge following of workers and peasants alike as he made his way north woods through France
- Napoleon made a series of triumph full entries into towns and cities acquiring ever increasing forces
- Arising against the Bourbons
broke out in Lyons before he reached the city on the 9th of March and by the time the news reached Vienna he had a bound 12,000 supporters
- on the 19th of March the Royal Army stationed outside of Paris defected to Bonaparte
- There was mass desertion, when soldiers saw their old commander

  • Napoleon made promises in a bit to regain peoples trust, he promised peace and spoke so persuasively that the French press which shortly before had chastised the scoundrel Bonaparte began referring to him as our great and beloved Emperor, he also put forward a new constitution by the proclamation of an additional act.
  • it promised free election a free pass and a constitution of monarchy with two chamber government, however further constitution produced a very low turnout in the plebiscite of 22%
  • Napoleon raise an army of 300,000 men with which oppose the British Dutch and Prussian forces of the fourth coalition which were gathering on the north frontier. Although this force could match the joint numbers of his allies, hope that they would be unable to cooperate quite likely given their disagreements over framing of the peace, Vienna.
  • On the 12th of June, Napoleon left Paris to join the French army which was preparing to cross the river Sambre into the new kingdom of Neverland is the aim to prevent the British forces under Wellington and Prussian troops from joining up, on the 16th Napoleon defeated depressions although he did not follow through with his victory and they pulled back in good order
  • eventually Napoleon and his imperial guard retreated
  • on the 15th of July believe in the British to be most generous of his enemies he surrounded to the British camping who took him to Plymouth, from there he was exiled to the remote British island of Saint Helena
