What is the coat of arms and what can it be used for?
The coat of arms is a special symbol of a country or family. It is used on all government documents and it can be displayed on public buildings.
Describe the protea ,secretary bird ,and sun mean on the coat of arms.
South Africa’s coat of arms has a protea, an emblem of beauty and our national flower in the centre. Above that is the secretary bird with outspread wings. Between the wings of the bird, you can see the sun , which is a symbol of rebirth,reflection and knowledge.

The ears of wheat symbolize growth and fertility. The elephant tusks symbolize wisdom and strength. Between the ears of wheat is a shield with images of Khoisan people, the first inhabitants of the land. This shows identity and spiritual protection of the land.
Describe the spear,shield and knobkierie and the motto on the coat of arms.
Above the shield you can see a spear and knobkierie. They are lying down which shows we want peace rather than war. The motto of the coat of arms is in Khoisan language of the Xam people and means unity in diversity.
