What is sexism?
Sexism is a type of discrimination that is based on a persons gender. It is the female gender that is often discriminated against.
Give two examples of sexism?
1 Adverts and TV programs often show men as manly and assertive, and woman physically attractive and passive. 2 Some clubs or service organizations refuse to let woman join the clubs or treat them disrespectfully when they do.
How does sexist stereotyping affect what men and woman expect of each other?
Women are meant to cook and clean while men are shown as muscular , hard working, watching sport and being served by women.
What is abuse?
Abuse means hurting somebody physically, mentally and emotionally . There are different types of abuse and different reasons for abusers to hurt people.
What is gender based abuse?
It is abuse that specifically targets a person of the opposite gender.
An example of gender based abuse?
Some men misuse their power and become violent. Women in the family are often victims of this violence. There are many reasons for the abuse of women but sexist gender based stereotyping is one of them. Women can also abuse men.
