The clutch Flashcards
what can cause a clutch to slip?
oil reaching the clutch linings or a worn clutch disc
how would you know when a clutch is slipping?
when the engine is at full revolution and the vehicle will not pull or move off in response to the engine.
name the main parts of the clutch?

what is the use of the gear-box?
it changes power to speed and speed to power.
it also maintains a ratio between engine and road wheels as it required by road and load conditions.
what can cause a gear lever to jump out of gear?
defective selector springs or worn gears.
what is the use of the drive shaft?
to transmit power between gear-box and differential.
what is the use of the universal joints?
they transmit power from one shaft to another
although the shafts are not in alignment
what is the use of the differential?
it drives the road wheels by means of axles and hubs
what are the main parts of the differential?
crown wheel
pinion gear
differential gears
bearings
what is the use of the differential gears?
when the vehicle turns, it reduces the speed of the inner wheel and increases the speed of the outer wheel,
although the wheels are driven with the same force.
what is the use of the pinions?
it is attached to the drive shaft and it drives the crown wheel which in turn drives the axles and road wheels.
