ignition and electrical system Flashcards
what is the use of the battery?
the battery stores the current produced by the generator supplying current for starting and maintaining the ignition and
electrical circuits when the engine is not running or when
the generator is not supplying enough current to meet the load.
what is the use of the generator?
it charges the battery when the engine is running
what is the use of the coil?
it changes low tension current to high tension and
supplies high tension current necessary to bridge the spark plugs gaps and so ignite the explosive mixture in the combustion chambers
what is the use of the contact breaker points?
it breaks primary circuit and so induces a higher voltage in the secondary winding.
what is the use of the distributor?
it sends high tension current to the spark plug of each cylinder in turn, by means of rotating contact arm (rotor brush.)
what is the use of the spark plug?
to ignite the explosive mixture in the cylinder
what is the use of the voltage regulator?
it automatically regulates the flow of current from the generator to the battery.
what is the use of the condenser?
it acts as a storage for current when the points are about to open and so induces a higher voltage in the secondary winding of the coil.
it also prevents the points from burning.
what is the use of the fuse?
it is to protect the electrical equipment in the event of a fault occurring in the circuit.
