what is the track rod?
the track rod links the 2 steering arms attached to the stub axle
what is the drop arm?
the drop arm is the short link which transmit the motion of the steering to the drag link
what are king pins?
they are swivel pins which connects the stub axles to the front axle.
what can cause a wheel to wobble?
wheel out of balance
bent road wheel
incorrect tyre pressure
what can cause a front wheel to make excessive noise when cornering?
front wheel out of alignment or
incorrect tyre pressure.
what is meant by toe- in?
when the distance between the front edges is less than that of the back edges of the front wheels
how can a toe-in be corrected?
by adjusting the track rod
how do you know when the front axle needs king pin and bushes?
jack up the front
hold the top and bottom of the wheel with both hands
rock the wheel in a vertical plane
if there is play, the bushes and pin are worn.
what is the use of shock absorbers?
to absorb spring reaction caused by road conditions
what is meant by under inflation?
when a tyre has in less than its normal amount of air pressure
what practices will reduce the life of tyre?
running at high speeds hard cornering under inflation sudden moving off sudden braking
what can cause uneven tyre wear ?
worn wheel bearings,
out of alignment
if the vehicle is not tracking correctly
what is the use of the steering?
to impact guiding movements to the front wheels
