the circulatory system Flashcards
what is the circulatory system”
a system responsible for the transport of substances around the body
what does blood carry
blood carries nutrients which have been absorbed from the small intestines and oxygen absorbed from the lungs an it delivers them to cells
why do cells need oxygen and nutrients
the need them as raw materials for growth and to carry out respiration
where is carbon dioxide and other waste materials transported too ,by the blood ?
transported to organs tat are responsible for their expulsion from the body
name the two parts the circulatory system is divided into
explain
- pulmonary circulation
- systemic circulation
pulmonary circulation - transports deoxygenated blood to the lungs and brings it back as oxygenated blood the heart
systemic circulation - transports oxygenated blood to the body cells and brings it back as deoxygenated blood to the heart
name and explain the three components of the circulatory system
- (fluid to be transported) BLOOD - all nutrients dissolved in blood
- CO2 and O2 are carried by red blood cells as they are transported - (tube in which blood circulates)BLOOD VESSELS - circulatory system is a closed system because blood never leaves the blood vessels as it moves around the body
- (a pump to circulate the blood around the body) THE HEART
name the three types of blood vessels
- veins
- capillaries
- arteries
