The Circulatory System Flashcards
Right side heart
Deoxygenated, low pressure
Left side heart
Oxygenated, high pressure
Pericardium
Prevents friction when heart contracts
Heart halved by thick wall
Septum
Upper chamber
Atrium
Lower chamber
Ventricle
Atrium
Collects blood towards heart
Ventricle
Pumps blood away from heart
Tricuspid valve
Right side
Bicuspid
Left side
Endocardium
Lines four chambers - enhances blood flow
Diastole phase
Heart rest , fills blood
Systole phase
Ventricles contract - pump blood to arteries
Arteries
Thick muscle + elastic fibres, blood away from heart
Veins
Thin muscle + elastic fibres, blood back to heart
Capillaries
One cell layer thick, go to every cell in body
Coronary arteries
Carry oxygenated blood to heart muscle
Respiration needs:
Glucose + oxygen
Red blood cells
No nucleus, haemoglobin, biconcave
White cells
Have nucleas
Phagocytes
Engulf/swallow pathogens
Lymphocytes
Make antibodies
Platelets
Cell fragments, made in bone marrow, hardens to make scab
