What was the Concordat?
An agreement that the Catholic Church and Hitler signed stating that the Catholic Church would not interfere with politics and the Nazis would leave the Church alone.
What was the Confessional Church?
A church set up outside of Nazi control that contained those who objected to the Nazi regime.
What happened to the Protestant Church?
It was brought under Nazi control. The Reich Church was set up and pastors had to swear loyalty to Hitler.

One third

Why did Hitler want to control the Catholic Church?
The Catholic Church owed their allegiance to the Pope rather than Hitler and the Nazi Party so he wanted to control them to reduce the influence of the Catholic Church on society.
How did Hitler break the agreement he had with the Catholic Church?
- Schools were made to remove crucifixes
- Schools were taken from Church control
- 1937- Catholic Youth was made illegal
