What did both the New Plan and the Four Year Plan aim to do?
They aimed to reduce unemployment by introducing key policies.
What key policies were on the Plans?
- A building programme to create new motorways, hospitals and houses
- Re-arming Germany with new weapons and equipment, creating millions of jobs in production factories
- Increasing the armed forces from 100 000 to 1 400 000
- Forcing all young men between 18 and 25 to work
- removing women and Jews from unemployment register to make unemployment figures look better
Were workers treated fairly?
YES:
- Strength through Joy- organised holidays and leisure activities for workers and families during holiday periods
- Beauty of Labour- improved conditions in the workplace (better lunch and toilet facilities)
- Farmers were promised that food prices would stay high and they were offered security of they fell behind on rent
NO:
- Trade unions were banned s they could not complain if they wanted to
- Improvements to conditions had to be made by workers in their spare time
- higher food prices meant people needed better jobs so they moved to the city and farmers found it hard to find workers in the countryside.
