Was the Children’s Crusade an actual Crusade?
This was not really a Crusade but a movement that attracted children and young people across Europe.
How did the Children’s crusade begin?
It began with a peasant boy called Stephen who lived in a French village called Cloys.
Did Stephen convince other children to go on a Children’s Crusade.
Yes Stephen was successful he got children from as young as eight to come on the Crusade with him preaching that it was Jesus’s will and that Jesus would look after them so they didn’t need to be armed.
What did the adults do at that time?
The King at the time Philip Augustus ordered the children to go home but he was ignored as were the pleas of thousands of parents.
Who was the other young boy who started preaching that it was God’s will for Children to go on a Crusade?
It was a ten year old boy called Nicholas in a village near Cologne.
What was the first wave of deaths caused by?
The first waves of death were caused by starvation from the lack of food which resulted in starvation but some pressed on.
Did they ever reach the holy land of Jerusalem?
No they didn’t as they were tricked by two slave merchants and they were shipped off to Alexandria and sold to Muslim nobles and merchants.
