Where did the Normans build there castles?
The Normans built there castles in London, Hereford and Winchester they usually built there castles in important places like at the mouth of a river or at a road junction or high over a dominating town.
What did Motte and Bailey castles have?
They consist of the Motte, Keep, Bridge, Drawbridge, Bailey, Palisade and a Moat.
What was below the Motte?
Below the Motte was the Bailey which had living quarters, animals and even a church the bailey was usually surrounded by a moat or ditch which was hard to attack.
Could a Motte and Bailey castle survive a siege?
Yes it had all the necessary water and food supplies to do so.
What defences did a Motte and Bailey castle have?
It had a strong wall with lookout towers.
