A

Special category status for prisoners who claimed to have broken the law for political reasons was removed in march 1976. This was under a policy called criminalisation.

A

The IRA bombed the Conservative party conference hotel in Brighton and came very close to killing Margaret thatcher.

This brought home to thatcher the need to have some sort of interaction with the nationalist community.
