The Changing Atom Flashcards

1
Q

What was the findings by Dalton in the early 1800s

A
  • Atoms are tiny particles making up elements

* they can’t be divided and all atoms of a given element are the same

Q

JJ Thomson findings and model 1887-1906

A
  • disproved the Greeks and dalton by finding electrons that had a negative change and a very small mass
  • Plum pudding model of atoms being made up of negative electrons moving around a sea of positive charge

Q

1909-11 Rutherford finding

A
  • measured deflection of alpha particles

* some deflected at angles so he concluded positive ones were at a nucleus
