The Cerebral Cortex 3.2 Flashcards
Why is the cerebral cortex heavily folded
To increase the surface area
What does localisation of brain functions mean
This means there areas which have a particular function to perform
What are the three areas
Sensory areas
Motor areas
Association areas
What does the sensory area do
Receives information as sensory impulses from receptors
What does the association area do
Analyses and interpret impulses received from the sensory areas and deals with it
What does the motor areas do
Acts of information from association areas by sending motor impulses to effectors
What is the corpus callosum
The corpus callosum is a bundle of nerve fibres
What does the left cerebral hemisphere do
Deals with information from the right visual field and controls the right side of the body
What does the right cerebral hemisphere do
Processes information from the left visual field and controls the left side it the body
How does information transfer through the hemispheres
Through the corpus callosum
