the cell cycle Flashcards
what are the two stages of the cell cycle?
interphase and mitotic (M) phase
How to remember mitotic phase
I prefer mince and tatties cold
Interphase, prophase,metaphase,anaphase, telophase, cytokinesis
what does interphase involve?
G1-growth and DNA synthesis
S phase-DNA is replicated
G2-further growth phase and ATP is built up
what is cytokinesis?
the cytoplasm is separated into two daughter cells
what is the prophase?
DNA condenses into chromosomes, consisting of two sister chromatids
membrane breaks down: spindle fibres extend from the MTOC by polymerisation
attach to chromosomes in the centromere region
what is the metaphase?
chromosomes are aligned at the metaphase plate (equator)
what is the anaphase?
spindle microtubules shorten by depolymerisation
sister chromatids are separated
chromosomes are pulled to opposite poles
what is telophase?
chromosomes decondense and membranes are formed around them
