The Case Manager's Handbook: Chapter 13 Flashcards
Sharing information with competition
Because it improves performance of practitioners, it enhances entire case management industry making it more likely to survive; not necessarily a business no-no. If providers of case management become better at what they do, viability is assured.
Networking
Developing and maintaining contacts in case management and business community are essential for survival.
Considerations when hiring additional staff
Hiring individuals who have the necessary expertise who share the same philosophy, work ethic, and business goals is highly desirable. Higher credentials do not guarantee success; better to train then retrain. Consider professional background, educational background, and life experience.
Traits of a good case manager
sense of humor, strong work ethic, anger (not hindrance) at system, belief in one’s ability to make a difference (but not a need for personal power), approachability, optimism, ability to look at right amount of positives and right amount of reality, awareness of business/financial aspects of healthcare, sense of objectivity, keenly developed ethical principles, energy and creativity, commitment to professionalism.
