The Boston Tea Party Flashcards
What was the Tea Act?
Since the East India Company was in danger of bankruptcy, this Act lowered the price of tea exclusively from the company (even being cheaper than smuggled Dutch tea).
What caused the Boston Tea Party?
The tea act was seen as colonists as just another way to get their money without their consent. Merchants feared this as a pathway to more items controlled by the British.
What was the actual Boston Tea Party?
On the night of December 16th, 1773, a group of 50 people including the sons of Liberty dressed as Mohawk Indians and dumped 90,000 pounds of tea into Boston harbor.
How did the tea even get into the harbor?
angry protestors tried to block ships from entering the harbor, but the royal governor commanded no ship would leave until all Tea was unloaded
