Lexington And Concord Flashcards
How did the king react to the letter sent to him?
He refused to answer and commanded General Gage, a military commander in America, to assemble troops to test the will of the colonists.
What led up to Lexington?
In April 1775, Gage was informed of a stash of weapons and gunpowder near Concord, so he assembled 700 of his best soldiers to march in a nighttime surprise attack on April 18.
What happened in Lexington?
Since colonists in Lexington had known early April 19th (thanks to the warnings from Paul revere and other colonists), a small band of minutemen led by john Parker were ready.
What was the “shot heard around the world”?
In Lexington, a shot from an unknown source in a stand off between colonists and the British provoked each side to start firing. The British had “won” that battle, and continued on to Concord,
What did British soldiers find in Concord?
Nothing, the news had reached Concord that the British were coming, so when they arrived Abby breakfast time, the weapons were gone. The soldiers then proceeded to set many wooden items on fire in frustration.
What was the Battle at Concord?
When the militias saw the smoke, they marched down the hill and met the British at the North Bridge led by Captain Isaac Davis. The British expected the colonists to retreat, which instead they returned the British’s firing and sent them running back to Boston.
What were the soldiers met with on the way back to Boston?
The path was lined by 4,000 angry minutemen that shot at every red coat they saw.
What was the final count for each side?
British: 74 dead/200 wounded or missing
Colonists: 49 dead/41 wounded
