The Big Picture Flashcards
What is the main receptor kick starting the immune system?
TLR
What is the TMMI response specific against?
Intracellular Ag
What happens with an unregulated Th1 response?
Type 4 Delayed Hypersensitivity which causes large collateral damage
And is caused by antigens like Tb or crystals
What is indicative of a frustrated Th1 response?
Granuloma
What happens in an unregulated Th1 response driven by SuperAg?
Massive T cell activation that can result in septic shock
What happens if the host cannot generate a TMMI?
No activated macrophages
What is an effective response to infections and mutations of non-APC cells?
The first line of defense against mutated or infected cells was the development of the natural killer lymphocyte that could recognize the normal MHC on the cell surface was no longer normal.
Does the CD8 cell require B7 stimulation to continue killing?
NO
What happens to CD8 killing when the Th1 response is defective?
Severe immunodeficiency
What is the main response to extracellular threats?
Th2 response with B cells
What is the problem in Type 3 Hypersensitivity?
Immunoexcess. The IC disposal system is overwhelmed and IC will bind to C3b or FcR gamma since it is not being cleared and causes problems
What is the problem in Type 2 Hypersensitivity?
Ab bind to Ag on self organs/cells that causes disease
What happens to the Th2 response when the B cell is absent?
No Ab production or plasma cells
What happens to the Th2 response when the T cell is absent?
There will be Ab production but there will be no isotope switch. This results in hyper IgM syndrome.
What is Type I Hypersensitivity?
It is allergy caused by the effects of IgE
