The Anterior Medial thigh Flashcards
The Femoral Triangle
Contains the Femoral artery, vein and nerve
Top border: Inguinal Ligament
Femoral Nerve
Largest branch of the lumbar plexus
Innervated the thigh flexors and the leg extensors
Saphenous nerve is a branch of the femoral nerve
S1-S3?
Femoral Artery
Continuation of the external iliac artery distal to the inguinal ligament
Adductor Canal
Lies deep to sartorius
Extends from the apex of the femoral triangle to the adductor hiatus in the tendon of adductor magnus
Adductor Canal borders:
Anterior: Satorius
LAteral: Vastus medialis
Posterior: Adductor longus and adductor magnus
Apex: Adductor hiatus
Pectineus
O: Pectineal line of the pubic bone
I: Pectineal line of the femur
A: Flexes the thigh at the hip;Externally rotates the thigh at the hip; Adducts the thigh at the hip
Quadratus lumborum
O: Iliac crest
I: 12th Rib; Trasverse processes, L1-L4
A: Bilateral contraction: Extends the lumbar spine
Unilateral contraction: Laterally flexes the trunk
Iliacus
O: Iliac fossa
I: Lesser trochanter of the femur
A: Flexes the thigh at the hip; Ventrally flexes the trunk (e.g. from supine)
Psoas Major
O: Transverse processes L1-L5
I: Lesser trochanter of the femur
A: Flexes the thigh at the hip; Externally rotates the thigh at the hip; Ventrally and laterally flexes the trunk (e.g. from supine)
Tensor Fascia Latae
O: Anterior superior iliac spine
I: Iliotibial band
I: Superior gluteal nerve
A: Flexes the thigh at the hip; Internally rotates the thigh at the hip; Abducts the thigh at the hip (with glute max)
Sartorius
O: Anterior superior iliac spine
I: Medial aspect of the tibia
A: Flexes the thigh at the hip; Externally rotates the thigh at the hip; Abducts the thigh at the hip; Flexes the leg at the knee
Quadriceps Femoris
A large group of muscles covering the anterior thigh
Powerful muscle
Extends the leg at the knee
Innervated by the femoral nerve
Insert via a common tendon, the quadriceps tendon
Rectus Femoris
Vastus Lateralis
Vastus Medialis
Vastus Intermedius
Rectus femoris
O: Anterior inferior iliac spine
I: Paterlla, tibial tuberosity
A: Flexes the thigh at the hip; Extends the leg at the knee
Vastus Lateralis
O: Linea aspera of the femurl Greater trochanter of the femur
I: Patella, tibial tuberosity
A: Extends the leg at the knee
Vastus Medialis
O: Linea aspera of the femur; Intertrochantaric line
I: patella; Tibial tuberosity
A: Extends the leg at the knee
Vastus intermedius
O: Body of the femur
I: Patella, Tibial tuberosity
A: Extends the leg at the knee
