A

Counterculture movement: 1960-73, it’s a social reaction against social norms, conservative politics, and military intervention
—ex: music-rock and roll became more popular, flower children- hippies and would promote living communally and doing ones own thing, film and media- movies began to break social taboos against depiction of sex and violence

Sexual revolution: movement of free love and changing of sexual attitudes; sex became more socially acceptable outside of marriage; challenged traditional values
Ex: singles culture, feminism, birth control

Malcolm X- member of Nation of Islam, civil rights leader, promoted complete separation of blacks and whites, was an any means necessary kind of guy;
Differences: Islam, segregation, black panthers take inspiration from him, believed demise of white race was imminent

Movement to get rid of racial segregation and disenfranchisement
- had sit ins–popular nonviolent protests employed by members of CRM
-Race riots–police often at center of violence, decreased with unemployment
-freedom rides–journeys by activists on interstate buses into segregated south. Wanted to integrate seating patterns and desegregate bus terminals

-Soviet premier warned any ‘pirate action’ would lead to war
-US and Soviet Union would be in a stalemate, with Cuba in the middle
-Kennedy agrees to remove missiles set in turkey on the border of Sovie U in exchange for Khrushchev removing missiles in Cuba
